Yes, entirely. All speech recognition and translation happens on-device using Apple’s built-in frameworks. No internet connection is required after the initial language model download.

No. Sotto processes audio in real time and discards it immediately. Nothing is recorded, stored, or transmitted anywhere. Your audio never leaves your Mac.

Mic captures your microphone — useful for in-person conversations. System audio captures everything playing through your Mac — useful for Zoom calls, YouTube videos, podcasts, and any other app. Both mode uses system audio when available, with mic as fallback.

Sotto uses Apple’s on-device translation models, which are shared across macOS. If you’ve used the Translate app before, they may already be downloaded. If not, Sotto downloads them once in the background — you’ll only see this the first time.

After purchase you’ll receive a license key by email. Open Sotto, click the language label in the notch to open Settings, and paste your key in the License section.

After 7 days, Sotto will prompt you to purchase a license. Your settings and preferences are preserved — nothing is lost.

Yes, each license works on up to 2 Macs simultaneously.

Yes. Sotto is a one-time purchase and all future updates are included. You only pay once.
